“Every decision I make is a choice between a grievance and a miracle. I let go of grievances and choose miracles.” – Deepak Chopra
I think this is my favorite passage of any of Chopra’s writings. I look back on many decisions I have made in the past, and I see many grievances motivating my decisions – the angry client, the short-end-of-the-stick deal, the argument with my wife. But I also see where I chose a miracle – I let go of a difficult situation; I trusted that things would work out, and the did
What does it mean to choose miracles? Maybe this: Set an intention, and then get out of the way.
“Intention isn’t simply a whim. It requires attention, and it also requires detachment,” says Chopra.
I ask for a positive resolution to problem X. Set that intention. Then meditate on that, but do not ruminate over possible solutions or what could go wrong. Just meditate on the intention. And then wait. Wait for the miracle.
One more favorite passage of The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire is where Chopra says that while those who are in touch with conscious intelligence (Source) have the intentions manifest, what actually happens is that their intentions and desires begin to adopt the intentions of the universe. In other words, instead of God granting your desires, your desires begin to mirror God’s desires.
Wow.
That right there is the key to life and purpose.
